REVIEW: Arsenic and Old Lace

Netflix rating: ***

Very entertaining, but man is Cary Grant a ham. Obviously a play ripped off the stage onto the screen... But, all the same, makes you wonder why Hollywood tries so hard nowadays, and produces so little actual entertainment.

Story is basically a murder-farce, based on a play by the same name. If you can suspend the need to suspend disbelief fully, you can tolerate the cab driver waiting 8 hours without being paid, or a husband totally forgetting about his wife on their wedding night. Once things get going, though, there's just the right mix of calamitous comedy and mid-way (not quite edge-of) seat thriller to keep you focused. I almost got so sucked in that I waited until the movie was over to eat dinner. Like I said, ALMOST.

Well worth the rental, and brought my spirits up when they had pretty well tanked. :P
